What actually happens on the VIP setup call — a plain-English walkthrough of the hour

The $197 VIP bundle includes one 60-minute call, on Zoom or the phone, booked after you buy through a scheduling link we email you. It's me, walking through the binder with whoever's on the other end of the call — sign-in, the first question, the settings that matter, the handful of things never to type in — until the hour's used or the questions run out, whichever comes last.

I don't have a stack of call transcripts to quote from, and I'm not going to invent a story about a specific customer to make this page feel warmer than it is. What I can give you instead is the honest plan — what the hour is built to cover, who it's actually for, what to have ready before you dial in, and what the cancellation terms are, stated plainly so nobody is surprised later. If you've already read the scripted 30-minute setup conversation I wrote for adult children to run themselves, this is the same content, run by me instead, for the hour, with a professional on the other end instead of a family member trying to remember what to say next.

The mechanics: booking, format, length

Here's exactly how it works, no ambiguity. You buy the $197 VIP bundle on the pricing page. That purchase includes the printed binder — shipped the same way the standalone $49 print is — plus the call. After you buy, we email you a scheduling link (through Cal.com) so you pick a time that works for you, or for whoever's actually going to be on the call. The call itself runs 60 minutes, over Zoom or a plain phone call, whichever you prefer — no special software required if you'd rather just dial in.

If you're not sure the VIP tier is the right fit and want to talk it through first, there's also a free 15-minute screening call available before you buy anything — that one's for questions about whether this makes sense for your situation, not for the setup itself.

Who the call is actually for

It works for three different arrangements, and all three are common:

What to have ready before you dial in

A short list, and none of it is complicated:

  1. The device you'll actually use ChatGPT on — laptop, tablet, or desktop — turned on and nearby, ideally already logged into a ChatGPT account if one exists yet. If it doesn't exist yet, that's fine; setting it up is part of the call.
  2. Your copy of the binder, if it's arrived — the print version ships separately, so depending on timing, you might be on the call before the physical book shows up. That's not a problem; the call doesn't require the printed binder to be in hand.
  3. A short list of actual questions, if you have them. "How do I ask it about my medications" or "can it help me write a letter to my sister" are the kind of specific, real questions that make the hour more useful than a generic walkthrough.
  4. An index card and a pen, or something to write on. A lot of the value of the call, the same way it is with the printed binder, comes from writing a few things down in your own hand before we hang up.

The plan for the hour

The call is built around the same material as the binder itself, walked through together instead of read alone. In practice that means covering, roughly in this order and adjusted to whatever's actually needed:

Getting signed in and oriented. If there's no account yet, we set one up. If there is one, we make sure it's on the free tier (unless there's a specific reason to be on a paid one) and that no payment method is attached that could trigger an accidental upgrade.

The first real question. Not a demo question — an actual one, something you or your parent genuinely want an answer to. Watching it work on something real does more than any explanation of features.

The settings worth changing. A couple of toggles in the account settings are worth adjusting up front — the one that controls whether your conversations are used to train future models, for instance — and we walk through exactly where those live.

What never to type in. The same handful of rules that show up throughout the binder and the rest of this site — nothing that belongs on a postcard, never Social Security numbers or account passwords — said out loud, once, clearly.

Whatever's actually on your mind. The last stretch of the hour is open for your specific questions — a task you want help with, a worry you haven't said out loud yet, a screen that confused you the one time you tried this before. That's usually where the hour ends up being most useful, and it's the part that's hardest to script in advance because it depends entirely on what you bring to it.

What the call doesn't include

To be direct about the boundaries: it's not ongoing tech support, and it's not a subscription to future calls. It's one hour, one time. If something comes up afterward, email [email protected] — replies come from a real person, same business day — but the structured, scheduled hour is a one-time thing, not a standing arrangement.

The refund policy, stated plainly

The $197 VIP bundle is final sale once you've booked the call on the calendar. The reason is straightforward: the calendar slot is the product, and once it's booked, that hour is held for you and not offered to anyone else. If you haven't booked yet, you can still cancel and get a refund; email us before you book if you're having second thoughts. If the printed binder has already shipped by the time you cancel, that portion is treated the same way the standalone $49 print is — final sale, since it can't be unprinted. The full policy, including how the $19 PDF and $49 print tiers work, is on our terms page. If you're not sure which tier is right for you before you buy, email first — we'd genuinely rather help you pick correctly than process a refund after the fact.
